Lake Annecy festival, one of the finest fireworks displays in Haute Savoie

It’s a must-see show that takes place close to our campsite in Annecy, and there are many reasons why people love this evening, going to see fireworks and taking part in this celebration in Haute Savoie. First and foremost, it’s a visually impressive spectacle for spectators. The fireworks are accompanied by music to create a festive atmosphere. When is Annecy’s fireworks display?

The lake festival takes place every year on the first Saturday in August.

The fête du lac dates back to the 16th century, and was an event for the sovereigns present when Savoie became part of France. It took place on August 29, 1860 in Annecy, in the presence of Napoleon III and Empress Eugénie. The show organized by Ignace Monnet was such a success that the town decided to perpetuate the tradition every year in Annecy.

What theme for Lake Annecy 2023?

It’s still too early to tell what the theme of the 2023 Lake Annecy Festival will be, but here’s a look back at previous years:

  • 2022: The theme of the lake festival was “Water Stories”.
  • 2020 – 2021: The festival has been cancelled for health reasons
  • 2019: The theme was “Dreaming of the Sky”, and the show organized by Italian fireworks specialist Parente Fireworks lasted over 70 minutes.
  • 2018: Pyroemotions and Acqua Viva Production put on an enchanting show, like something out of a Jules Verne story.
  • 2017: The pyrotechnic show was produced by Portuguese pyrotechnic company Grupo Luso Pirotecnia, on the theme of fire dancing.

Where to watch the Lake Annecy fireworks?

To make the most of the festivities, it’s best to head for the summits of Semnoz, Crêt de Châtillon or Crêt de l’Aigle for a view of the lake, or Parmelan for the more athletically inclined. The Col de la Forclaz is also an option for those wishing to enjoy the sunset. It’s also possible to watch the party from the beaches, free of charge and with the whole family.

What are the rates?

Prices to attend shows in 2022 (as an indication) were as follows: numbered stands cost €37, numbered chairs cost between €23 and €40, and lawns cost between €6.50 and €15.

Where to park for Lake Annecy fireworks?

To attend the Fête du lac, you can park in the Bonlieu parking lot, accessible only from rue Sommeiller between 5pm and midnight. The Hôtel-de-Ville and Tournette parking lots are also available, but no entry is permitted after 10am and 5pm respectively, and no exits until the event has been cleared by midnight.
