The best paragliding spots near Annecy

Paragliders are mainly concentrated on the eastern shore of Lake Annecy, near Talloires and Montmin. In fact, Talloires offers such excellent conditions for paragliding that it is Europe’s leading paragliding site. Before you leave terra firma and plunge into the void, at an altitude of around 950 m, you can enjoy the fabulous view of the lake and its contours, with the town of Annecy and the mountains in the background. Orientation is good and take-off is generally easy in the absence of wind. The site is often frequented by walkers and spectators who come to watch the take-off. The other take-off areas are at Montmin-Col de la Forclaz, Montmin-Coche Cabane and Le Grand Bornand. The latter is particularly interesting if you want to fly over the Aravis massif.

There are three main landing zones:

• Doussard (460 m altitude): a popular area for paragliders, hang gliders and kites.
• Perroix (540 m above sea level): this area is home to several facilities, including hotels, campsites, a bar and a sail repair center. Make sure you have read all the recommendations for this site before taking off.
• Marlens (450 m altitude): this area lies to the south of the lake, between Faverges and Ugine. The wind can be strong in the middle of the day. Be very careful as you approach, as you will see power lines in the vicinity of the landing area.
